Fylde Coast Winter
Birdwatching Minibreaks

We are based on the Fylde Coast, sandwiched between the Ribble Estuary and Morecambe Bay – 2 of the most important wetlands on the planet, that both absolutely teem with thousands upon thousands of waders and wildfowl species in winter.

We are based on the Fylde Coast, sandwiched between the Ribble Estuary and Morecambe Bay – 2 of the most important wetlands on the planet, that both absolutely teem with thousands upon thousands of waders and wildfowl species in winter.

Our area also has excellent nature reserves such as Martin Mere WWT, Marton Mere LNR in Blackpool and Leighton Moss RSPB within easy reach.

We also still have populations of fast disappearing farmland species such as Yellowhammer and Corn Bunting and 4 or 5 species of owls in winter. Our estuaries boast a healthy wintering population of raptors and you can confidently expect to see Hen Harrier, Marsh Harrier, Peregrine and Merlin and if the tides are high Water Pipit and Rock Pipit too.

We occasionally get the odd scarcer species too in winter with Snow Bunting, Shorelark, Purple Sandpiper, Black Redstart, Bewick’s Swan and others not unusual here in winter and our huge wintering flocks of Pink footed Geese quite often have the odd scarce and rarer species with them. We have a regular wintering Twite flock feeding station and seafowl include Scoters and Eiders.

Your guide, Stuart, worked for the RSPB on the Ribble Estuary and is a self confessed Godwit ( Black tailed of course ) obsessive. For the last few years he has led the RSPB guided walks on the Fylde side of the Ribble Estuary.

Our Fylde Coast Winter breaks are available on request and can be of any duration between 3 days / 2 nights and 6 days / 5 nights.

Let us know what you’d like to see, how long you’d like to stay and how many of you are in your party ( minimum 2 and maximum 5/6 ) and we’ll work out an itinerary with you and a cost for you.

We only use good, en suite accommodation on these winter wader tours and we’ll even take you up and down the famous Blackpool Illuminations should your visit coincide with them being on ( they usually shine from September to January ).
