Estuary Guided Walks 2026

On our estuary guided walks you’ll see an array of shorebirds, wildfowl and birds of prey while learning why the Ribble Estuary is one of the most important wetlands on the planet, why there’s so many birds here in winter and how each individual species is adapted to live on the estuary. We have the best quality telescopes available for you to look through but you’ll also need your own binoculars too.

All events meet at Lytham Windmill at stated time. Bring binoculars and telescope if you have one. Booking is essential.

The Ribble Estuary
Saturday February 1st at 8am
(approx 4 hours)

Our walk today takes us as far as the end of Lytham Green to view the saltmarsh at the back of the Lytham Quays housing estate. Along the way we’ll encounter a number of wintering shorebirds. We’ll spend some time at the saltmarsh where we’ll hope to see Hen Harrier, Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, Merlin, Great White Egret and perhaps Spoonbill which all winter here. We’ll talk about the habitat management work here which enables species such as Eider and Avocet to breed successfully. Other possibilities here are Water Pipit, Raven and Short eared Owl.
Meet at Fairhaven Lake at the bottom of the steps where the RSPB centre was. Cost for this tour is £15pp.
**BOOKING REQUIRED, MAX 6 PEOPLE**

The Ribble Estuary
Sunday February 8th at 12pm
(approx 2-3 hours)

Our walk today takes us from Fairhaven Lake and into Granny’s Bay, along the promenade towards Lytham as far as the jetty and back again. There’ll be a good selection of waders and we’ll learn about how these birds are adapted to their habitat and the invertebrate food that teems in and beneath the estuary mud, where these birds have come from and where they go to in the breeding season.
Meet at Fairhaven Lake at the bottom of the steps where the RSPB centre was. All Guided Walks are £12pp per event unless stated otherwise. **BOOKING REQUIRED, MAX 6 PEOPLE**
